Karralika, an organisation offering alcohol and drug treatment programs in residential and community settings, in Canberra, ACT.
With three locations across Canberra, Karralika uses a central database to house records, documentation, and software for their programs. This information was accessed through ADSL broadband connections, using VPN login, which was creating problems and frustration within the organisation, due to access speeds (download and upload), as well as issues with timeouts and saving information. As well as improvements in efficiency, Karralika was also looking to reduce consultancy costs and licensing charges.
Through research and consultation, Karralika came to the decision that they needed a Cloud-hosted solution with their own Private Network (PN). They engaged a major carrier to provide the PN and Cloud facilities, and engaged a local IT Consultancy business to provide and set up the hardware and software component.
Eight months later, despite paying for their PN and Cloud solution, Karralika did not have a working model. What they had instead was the incorrect hardware and software to run the solution, overspend on that hardware, and frustrated staff.
Karralika sought advice from another IT Consultancy, which advised them on the correct hardware for their issue – and also recommended Infinite as the provider for their iPN solution.
Infinite met with key stakeholders of Karralika and the IT Consultancy firm to get a clear understanding of Karralika’s requirements, short and long term. Budget was also a consideration, as Karralika is a not-for-profit organisation, but Infinite was able to provide a number of options, based on performance and budgeting, and utilising the majority of the expensive hardware already purchased by Karralika – saving the organisation money and time.
The first consideration for any solution is always performance, efficiencies, availability, cost and service. Infinite ordered the appropriate connections which were a mixture of ADSL and EFM, and this was then all brought together in a Private Network Cloud solution. Infinite configured the appropriate routers to handle the different connections and handed them over to the IT Consultancy firm to install. Infinite then tested the connections, configured the Private Network and advised the client of the successful install and outcome.
Karralika, through their Infinite-managed iPN, now has a solution that allows each location to interact with each other, accessing sensitive information in a secure way (Private Networks do not travel over the internet and are hidden). Speeds have increased with download and upload of information providing efficiencies for staff. There has been a reduction in Capital and Operational expenditure as there is less need for IT support, hardware and software upgrades and purchases.
As the Private Network connections do not travel over the Internet there are no data charges further reducing costs.
