If you live in Canberra, you might be in a unique position when it comes to your internet. Many homes and businesses in the capital are connected to a special high-speed network, a legacy of the original TransACT network. This infrastructure is incredibly capable but it also means that your everyday internet experience, from working at home to streaming movies, is heavily influenced by the provider you choose.
If you are with a large national provider like iiNet, you might wonder if you are getting the best possible connection. The truth is, not all providers treat this network the same. Switching to a local provider like Infinite Networks is more than just changing who you pay your bill to, it is about fundamentally upgrading your daily online life.
Experience a Genuinely Faster Connection
On the same physical lines into your home, different providers can offer vastly different levels of performance. One of the biggest differences you will notice when switching to a provider that specialises in the Canberra network is a dramatic improvement in your upload speeds.
This might not sound exciting at first, but it has a huge impact on modern internet use. It means sending large work files or backing up your precious family photos to the cloud happens in moments, not minutes. It means your end of a video call on Teams or Zoom is crystal clear, without the frustrating lag or freezing. For gamers, it means a more responsive connection where every millisecond counts. It is a generational leap in technology that makes your entire internet experience feel snappier and more reliable.
The Value of Truly Local Support
When you have an issue with your internet, the last thing you want is to wait on hold only to speak with someone in an overseas call centre who is reading from a script. This is often the experience with larger, national providers.
Choosing a local Canberra-based provider changes this completely. When you call for help, you are speaking with an expert right here in Australia, often in Canberra itself, who has years of experience with the specific network connected to your home. Customer experiences show this leads to faster, more effective solutions because you are talking to someone who is empowered to fix the problem, not just apologise for it. It is the difference between being a customer and being a partner.

Once connected I was getting speeds around 750mb/sec download over ethernet cable, super fast.
Highly recommended.
1) If a Netcomm wifi router was ordered during sign up, an email confirming that delivery has commenced and includes tracking number and courier
2) Would good idea for the install technicians to have the wifi routers with them so can be setup on the day of installation. this would then negate point 1
Technician Callum was very helpful and quick with getting the service physically installed at the premises.
So far I’m getting greats speeds and stability on the service with approx. 630mbps down and 93mbps up!
Cough “optus” 😁 simon and the team have made the transition so easy, and the speed 👌 I know I’m only a new customer but it feels right and I doubt I’ll be having issues with these guys into the future
Extremely happy, as we need to change provider to gain better quality internet connection!
Performance is heavily dependant on line distance, but I’ve managed to go from 100mbps on an NBN FTTN install to around 450mbps, which is a great improvement and well beyond any FTTN speeds. Researching what other people get and most see very significant improvements over a FTTN connection.
820mb/110mb
Pings half what nbn pings were, speeds about 10 times faster on download and 5 times faster on upload.
Great to support a Canberra business.
Edit: Adding in another outstanding experience dealing with the team at infinite. Simon Dimes went above and beyond to help me out with a very specific request I had and got it sorted very fast. Thanks Simon!
Regards
An Internet Service Built for Modern Life
Our homes are more connected than ever. We rely on our internet for everything from home security cameras and smart devices to stable VPN connections for working remotely. A specialist provider understands this and builds their service accordingly.
By switching, you can get features that are often reserved for business customers, such as a stable and permanent address for your network on the internet. This makes things like accessing your security cameras when you are away or connecting to your office network far more reliable. It is about getting a robust, business-quality connection that is ready for the demands of a modern, connected household.
What About the nbn? A Commitment to the Best Connection
Many Canberrans are also aware that the nbn is undergoing significant upgrades across the city. Suburbs from Belconnen to Tuggeranong and Ainslie to Yarralumla are progressively being given the option to switch from older copper-based connections to a full Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) service. This is great news for residents, as it opens up access to incredibly fast and reliable internet on the nbn.
This is where choosing a dedicated local provider becomes important for your nbn connection too. Infinite Networks is committed to delivering the best internet experience for Canberrans, regardless of the network you are on. We are experts in both the Vision Network and the nbn. A key difference is how we handle your nbn traffic. Unlike many national providers who send Canberra’s internet traffic to Sydney and back, we deliver our nbn services locally. This means you get the best possible latency, or responsiveness, which makes a noticeable difference to your connection’s performance.
So, whether your home’s ultimate connection is through the lightning-fast G.fast on the Vision Network or a newly upgraded nbn fibre line, our commitment is the same: to provide the fastest, most reliable and best-supported internet experience possible for our fellow Canberrans.
Choosing a Provider Invested in Canberra's Future
In contrast, larger national companies have different priorities. iiNet’s parent company, TPG Telecom, has made strategic decisions to focus more on mobile services and mass-market nbn, selling off parts of its high-end business infrastructure. In one instance a customer has even reported that iiNet has indicated it plans to exit the high-speed VDSL network in Canberra altogether as nbn upgrades become available.
For you, this means choosing between a provider that is deeply invested in the future of your local network and one that may be planning for a future without it.
Switching your internet provider in Canberra can unlock a significantly better online experience. It means a faster, more responsive connection for everything you do, backed by the peace of mind that comes from expert, local support. It is about choosing a technology partner that is as committed to Canberra as you are.
