July 1 nbn Price Changes and Your Infinite Service
At Infinite, we’ve always believed that delivering the best experience on the internet starts with transparency. We want to keep you fully informed about upcoming changes to our pricing, driven by industry-wide adjustments, and what they mean for your household.
From July 1, nbn Co is introducing new wholesale pricing structures that apply to all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which is also known as a Retail Service Provider (RSP) across Australia. Because nbn Co controls the underlying infrastructure, their wholesale access fees form the baseline of what it costs every provider to connect your home.
The Reason Behind the Changes
The Government Mandate and nbn Co's Return on Investment
To understand why these wholesale costs are increasing, it helps to look at how nbn Co operates. nbn Co was established as a Government Business Enterprise (GBE). Under the Australian Government’s formal Statement of Expectations, nbn Co is explicitly mandated to operate as a commercial business.
This means nbn Co is required to generate sufficient revenue to not only fund ongoing network upgrades but also to repay its multi-billion-dollar government loans and deliver an appropriate return on investment to the Commonwealth (the taxpayer). To meet these mandated financial return targets and achieve commercial sustainability, nbn Co regularly adjusts its wholesale pricing upward. These baseline infrastructure costs are then passed on to all retail service providers.
The Rising Cost of Keeping You Connected
Over the past year, alongside these specific nbn wholesale increases, the broader costs of keeping a high-performance network running have also risen. Like many businesses, we are navigating the realities of inflation, rising power costs to keep our data centers operational, and the increased costs of the premium networking equipment required to keep your connection rock-solid.
To continue providing the high-quality, locally supported service you expect from us without compromising on network performance, we are adjusting our plan pricing in line with these increased costs.
What exactly is changing?
We have worked hard to absorb as much of this as possible to minimise the impact on your monthly bill. Effective July 1, the following changes will apply to all new plans:
Most nbn plans: Will see a modest increase of $4 to $5 per month.
25Mbps plans: Will increase by $10 per month. This specific tier has been heavily impacted by nbn Co’s revised wholesale pricing model, which has significantly increased the baseline cost for this entry-level speed.
1000/100Mps (Gigabit) plans: Good news! The pricing for our top-tier Gigabit plans will not increase. In fact, depending on your current setup, some customers on this tier will actually see a price reduction.
Our Commitment to You
We know that any price increase is unwelcome news. However, our core commitment to you remains unchanged. We refuse to compromise on the quality of your connection by cutting corners or crowding our network. We will continue to invest heavily in our infrastructure and our dedicated local Canberra support team so that when you need us, you get real, expert help right away.
If you are currently on a 25Mbps or mid-tier plan, this might be the perfect time to review your internet usage. Because nbn Co is making higher speeds more commercially viable while raising the floor on lower speeds, upgrading to our 1000/100Mbps tier could offer your household a massive leap in performance for exceptional value.
If you’d like to discuss your current plan, explore whether the Gigabit tier is right for your home, or just have a chat about these changes, our local team is ready to help.
Thank you for your continued trust and for choosing to be part of the Infinite community.
